James Madison understood to safeguard our government against the aspirations of selfish men, “ambitions must be made to counteract ambition.” Each branch of our federal government was given the tool to resist the attempts at garnishing the power of the others.
Even with this “separation of powers,” the legislature holds the majority of power as it has the ability to pass laws and amend the Constitution.
If you suppose, as I do, that the framers of our government created with perfect precision an inefficient government to counteract the ambitions of the men, you agree the hope in preserving our democracy is in the rusty gears of our bloated government.
To resist the “ambitions of men” serving in the powerful Congress, the Legislative branch needed safeguards unlike those installed for the Executive and Judicial. Contradictory to the other two branches, Congress was broken up into two parts - the US House of Representatives and the US Senate.
“It is of great importance in a republic not only to guard the society against the oppression of its rulers, but to guard one part of the society against the injustice of the other part. Different interests necessarily exist in different classes of citizens. If a majority be united by a common interest, the rights of the minority will be insecure.” - James Madison Federalist No. 51
Georgia Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene is evidence of the success of using government procedure against the majority to protect the minority. After being attacked and falsely maligned, Rep. Greene was stripped of her assigned committees, turning her into a one-woman Republican roadblock.
Instead of wasting away with little say as a freshman in the House minority, Representative Greene used stalling tactics with expert precision, upsetting all the right people.
Greene forced several Democrat legislative endeavors to fail or be stalled due to a simple roll call vote. She studied all the tools left behind and began to slow the government down to a halt.
Our country’s future relies heavily on the ability to stall the intentional decline brought on by unchecked spending and open borders. When reports identify Republicans upset with her attempts to slow down legislation, write their names down, they aren’t one of us.
Let go of “principled conservatives” like Kevin McCarthy and replace them with someone with the intestinal fortitude to go for the throat when the enemy shows its neck.
We won’t survive if Rep. Greene is the only member of Congress willing to stop the train of abuses coming from the majority. For a moment, Democrat Senators Sinema and Manchin are working to control the spending.
That is until the right deal is made, of course.
